What is yhe difference between PBX and PABX?
The letter "A". Seriously, PBX stands for Private Branch E(x)change and the A in PABX stands for Automatic. Unless you have a REALLY old PBX with a manual switchboard operator then the terms PBX and PABX are synonymous.
What is the difference between PBX, PABX, and KTS?
PBX: Abbreviation for Private Branch E(x)change. 1. A subscriber-owned telecommunications exchange that usually includes access to the public switched network. 2. A switch that serves a selected group of users and that is subordinate to a switch at a higher level military establishment. (188) 3. A private telephone switchboard that provides on-premises dial service and may provide connections to local and trunked communications networks. (188) Note 1: A PBX operates with only a manual switchboard; a private automatic exchange (PAX) does not have a switchboard, a private automatic branch exchange (PABX) may or may not have a switchboard. Note 2: Use of the term "PBX" is far more common than "PABX," regardless of automation.
KTS: Key Telephone System In a local environment, terminals and equipment that provide immediate access from all terminals to a variety of telephone services without attendant assistance. (188) Note: A KTS may interface with the public switched telephone network.
NOTE : The line between KTS and PBX has blurred considerably in recent years. In general a KTS does not generate its own dialtone. KTS are generally smaller and serve less users than a PBX. KTS usually are used to share several analogue line between many users. PBX generally use trunks (24+ channels/lines)rather than individual lines. PBX switch and route calls and generally have more features than KTS systems. Originally complex features like voice-conferencing and voice-mail were only available on PBXes but his is no longer the case. |
